Coding doesn’t have an age limit-o
How can we get female university students to code?
This is the question that is now being asked as a result of the launch of Google’s $50 million (approx. £29 million) initiative, Made with Code - an enterprise focused on getting 1 million young girls exposed to computer science by the year 2020.
From its research, Google found that many young girls felt discouraged to study a computer science degree because they would be entering ‘the boys’ world’ of tech; causing girl-geeks to be in short supply.
One suggested method to combat this way of thinking is to create a feeling of belonging and promote the creation of communities outside of the classroom to sponsor creativity and collaboration.
